La Jolla Muirlands Middle School
Muirlands Middle School is located in heart of La Jolla, adjacent to and just east of La Jolla High School. The school enjoys the benefit of very strong support from the local community. The program is a Grade 6-8 middle school with approximately 1000 students. Forty two percent of the students qualify for and participate in the gifted and talented education (GATE) program. There is also a comprehensive “special ed” program for children who need a little extra help. More the half the staff have masters degrees in education and related fields of study.
The school has an exceptional educational field trip program. Annual trips include an East Coast history trip, a Yosemite Valley environmental sciences trip, and a sixth grade camp for all sixth grade students. Monthly recognition assemblies are held to encourage the students to higher achievement and to recognize strong academics, improvement, and overall good citizenship.
Because the education environment is so extraordinarily high, all of our schools are extremely aware of the standards which the parent community expects. La Jolla High School, being one of the top public high schools academically in the country, sets a very high standard which our middle school children recognize. Parents are involved. Students, while facing the normal societal problems, are motivated to achieve. Academically La Jolla is one of the most favorable communities in America. While Mission Hills, Point Loma, Del Mar and other San Diego areas are beautiful communities they cannot touch La Jolla for academics. La Jolla’s public and private schools are truly some of the best in all of California.
